Authorities in Bonnybridge in Scotland became so concerned at the level of UFO sightings that they wrote to Downing Street seeking an investigation.
More than 600 sightings were made from 1992 to 1994 by inhabitants in the
town, which is located four miles west of Falkirk.
Over a period of five years from 1992 to 1997 Cllr William Buchanan, of
Falkirk District Council, wrote letters to both John Major and Tony Blair.
He told Mr Blair in October 1997: "I have tried to get an answer for the
people and have been ridiculed for it."
The MoD replied that it was "satisfied that there is no evidence that the
United Kingdom's airspace might have been compromised by hostile or
unauthorised foreign military activity" and that it had "limited interest in
UFOs".
Undeterred Mr Buchanan wrote again to Mr Blair in 1998 demanding "the truth"
and promising to continue his "quest for answers".
